Introduction:What Kind of Airlift Capacity Does Cross-Border E-Commerce Require?

Why Are Cross-Border E-Commerce Platforms and Dedicated Line Companies Seeking High-Cost-Effectiveness Airlift Solutions?

Steven Wang: Currently, cross-border e-commerce businesses are looking for fast and cost-effective air transport solutions. For example, cross-border e-commerce companies with dedicated lines, as well as e-commerce platforms represented by TEMU and SHEIN, all strive for high-cost-effectiveness airlift solutions. In all of their capacity procurement, they adopt a stratified, tiered approach. This is because, for these companies, choosing direct flights, all-cargo aircraft, or belly holds of passenger planes can better ensure timeliness.

Moreover, the number of air cargo entry points in mainstream markets in Europe and the U.S. is steadily increasing. For instance, in the U.S., cities like Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago now have seven or eight all-cargo air cargo entry points. In Europe, apart from the traditional countries like the UK, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain, the focus is shifting to countries in Northeast and Central Europe, with more and more all-cargo air cargo entry points appearing across the continent. As the number of entry points grows, companies are seeking high-quality airlift solutions, but the current available air capacity is clearly insufficient.

Additionally, these businesses are also looking for premium connecting flights. Companies are placing great emphasis on choosing transfer points and interconnecting hubs that can match with the outbound flights on the same day. However, such transfer points are relatively limited around China. Only major international transit hubs like Japan, South Korea, Singapore, and Dubai offer sufficient belly-hold capacity or all-cargo aircraft resources to match first-leg flights. This has led to the current situation where high-quality transfer flights are still relatively scarce in the market.

Lastly, in some mainstream countries in Europe and the U.S., companies aim for a 3 to 5-day delivery window. Once the parcel reaches the destination airport, they hope for customs clearance on the same day. To meet this same-day clearance requirement, it is ideal for the package to arrive at the overseas destination airport the morning after being dispatched from China. This way, after completing customs clearance, the package can be handed over to the local delivery company and be delivered regionally on the same or the next day.

Therefore, cross-border e-commerce dedicated line logistics companies or e-commerce platforms are engaged in a competitive battle for premium upstream airlift resources!
