1.Maersk launches a new air freight portal.

 

On May 11th, Maersk announced the launch of a new air freight portal in Miami, expanding its global service network. The new facility, spanning 8,000 square meters, is dedicated to connecting Europe, Asia, and Latin America, offering seamless and competitive freight services.

 

This initiative aims to strengthen supply chain connections in the Latin American market, support North American exports to Latin America, and serve Asian markets in the Latin American supply chain. By expanding its global portal network, Maersk aims to provide customers with efficient and reliable comprehensive logistics solutions, further solidifying its leading position in the global air freight industry. Currently, Maersk's air freight services cover over 70,000 airports in more than 90 countries worldwide.

2.Reports indicate multiple warehouses in Amazon's Western US facilities are experiencing inventory overflow.

 

On May 11th, following Amazon's announcement of Prime Day being scheduled for July 2024, many sellers have begun preparations for the first peak season of the year. However, according to insiders in the logistics industry, several warehouses are currently facing severe operational restrictions. These warehouses include GYR2, XLX7, VGT2, LGB8, SMF6, SMF3, GYR3, ORD2, IGQ2, MDW6, XLX7, ALB1, ONT8, SBD1, among others. Among them, GYR2 warehouse is experiencing the most severe inventory overflow, with reports of frequent rescheduling and even closures since February.

3. Amazon's AGL package pickup range has been expanded to include multiple new regions.

 

On May 11th, Amazon Global Logistics announced that the pickup range for AGL packages has expanded once again, with two additional cities added to Shenzhen Port. Currently, the pickup area at Shenzhen Port includes Shenzhen City (Bao'an District, Dapeng District, Futian District, Guangming District, Longgang District, Longhua District, Luohu District, Nanshan District, Pingshan District, and Yantian District), 11 new districts within Guangzhou City, 5 new districts within Foshan City, and 33 districts and towns within Dongguan City.

4. DHL has received a new passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft.

 

On May 11th, Elbe Flugzeugwerke (EFW) announced that it has delivered its 14th Airbus A330-300P2F passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft to DHL. The aircraft took off earlier this week from Dresden. It is known that DHL Express operates its A330-300P2F fleet primarily in Europe and Asia, flying transatlantic flights from Leipzig, Germany, to the United States. DHL Express has ordered a total of 18 A330-300P2F aircraft.

 

In addition to DHL, several other companies have also received A330P2F aircraft from EFW in recent months. This includes Qantas Airways, which received its second A330-200P2F aircraft in December 2023, and China International Cargo Airlines, which received its first of eight A330P2F aircraft at the end of 2023.

5. The postal industry experienced a growth of 16.8% in mail volume in 2023.

 

On May 11th, the State Post Bureau released the "2023 Postal Industry Development Statistics Bulletin," stating that the postal industry's volume of postal services reached 1,624.8 billion items in 2023, an increase of 16.8% compared to the previous year. Among them, the volume of express delivery services reached 1,320.7 billion items, representing a year-on-year increase of 19.4%.

 

In 2023, the volume of same-city express delivery services reached 13.64 billion items, marking a year-on-year increase of 6.6%. The volume of intercity express delivery services reached 1,153.6 billion items, representing a year-on-year increase of 20.5%. The volume of international/cross-border express delivery services reached 3.07 billion items, indicating a year-on-year increase of 52.0%. The proportions of same-city, intercity, and international/cross-border express delivery services were 10.3%, 87.4%, and 2.3% of the total volume, respectively.

6.Shopee Philippines site will no longer deduct reverse logistics fees.

 

May 11th Update: Shopee Philippines announced that starting from June 1st, 2024, newly created orders will no longer deduct reverse logistics fees. Additionally, for orders where buyers successfully return/refund items, sellers will bear both the shipping and return shipping costs.

6. DPD China launches China to Australia full-service express delivery product.

 

On May 11th, DPD China collaborated with the Australian logistics service provider TEAMGLOBALEXPRESS (hereinafter referred to as TGE) to launch a door-to-door express delivery product. This product includes services such as B2B, B2C, and FBA to meet the diverse needs of different types of customers. It also offers options for DDP and DDU to ensure service flexibility and adaptability.

 

The product has a delivery time of 5 to 8 days for signing, with high frequency, maintaining high efficiency while providing a higher cost-performance ratio. The service covers a wide range of areas, meeting the diverse delivery needs of customers.

7. FedEx introduces new online import customs clearance tool.

 

On May 11th, FedEx announced the official launch of the 'FedEx Import Customs Clearance Online Declaration Tool' in mainland China. This tool complements the existing export online declaration tool and leverages digital innovation to provide Chinese customers with more comprehensive and efficient import and export customs clearance services. Through the 'FedEx Import Customs Clearance Online Declaration Tool,' Chinese customers can electronically submit trade-related data for low-value express shipments (Class C) and formal customs clearance shipments (Class D).

9.DaJianyun Warehouse saw a 96.5% increase in revenue in the first quarter.

 

On May 11th, DaJianyun Warehouse announced its financial performance for the first quarter ending on March 31, 2024. In the first quarter, total revenue amounted to $251.1 million, marking a 96.5% increase compared to $127.8 million in the first quarter of 2023. Gross profit reached $66.5 million, reflecting a 124.7% increase from $29.6 million in the first quarter of 2023. Net profit stood at $27.2 million, up by 71.1% from $15.9 million in the first quarter of 2023. Adjusted EBITDA increased by 74.2%, rising from $19.8 million in the first quarter of 2023 to $34.5 million.

10. Several shipping companies have successively launched Asia to Mexico shipping routes.

 

On May 11th, MSC, CMA CGM, Cosco, and other global shipping companies have begun offering container shipping services directly from Asia to Mexico, aiming to meet the growing demand for containers and investment from Chinese companies in Mexico.

 

The newly launched TLP5 route by Cosco, CMA CGM's M2X-Mexico Express service, and MSC's loop shuttle service all provide direct routes between China, South Korea, Japan, and Mexico, with stops at ports like Manzanillo. 11. SF Express and Cainiao Group participated in the plenary meeting of the Consultative Committee of the Universal Postal Union (UPU)

 

On May 11th, the Consultative Committee of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) held its plenary meeting at the UPU headquarters in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Han Ruilin, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of the China Express Association, led a delegation to attend the meeting. Representatives from SF Express and Cainiao Group were also part of the delegation. This is the first time that the China Express Association has led a delegation to participate in the Consultative Committee meeting. The plenary meeting focused on various agendas such as the rules of procedure for the Consultative Committee, establishment of new membership levels, membership development, fundraising, and progress in related work.

 

The official participation of SF Express and Cainiao Group in the Consultative Committee of the Universal Postal Union signifies another solid step forward for "Chinese express delivery" in going global.
