According to official figures from the Hong Kong government, as of 2023, the population of Hong Kong has reached 7.4981 million, with an internet penetration rate as high as 92%, demonstrating strong growth momentum in its e-commerce market.
According to recent business updates and unaudited operational data released by Hong Kong Technology Exploration, in September 2023, despite seasonal factors, the operational performance of Hong Kong's largest shopping website, HKTVmall, experienced a slight decline but still achieved a growth of 3.6%. The number of independent customers and monthly active application users of HKTVmall shopping remained relatively stable. The top categories of goods purchased through HKTVmall in Hong Kong include clothing, household goods, baby products, and pet supplies. This indirectly reflects consumers' demand for daily necessities and household items.
As the e-commerce market in Hong Kong steadily grows, understanding the considerations for mailing to Hong Kong becomes crucial. The advantages of Guangdong-Hong Kong EMS products as end delivery products include a delivery time of 1-2 days within the Guangdong-Hong Kong area, with an extension of 1-2 days for remote areas. Delivery is not available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Hong Kong statutory holidays, with deadlines extended accordingly.
Considerations for mailing to Hong Kong:
Before shipping, confirm the delivery method of the mail: EMS in Hong Kong has two receiving methods: door-to-door delivery and postal self-pickup.
(1) Door-to-door delivery
Hongkong Post delivers mail from Monday to Friday. On Saturdays, only designated urgent delivery services, such as express delivery and local postal express, are provided. Mail delivery services are not available on Sundays and public holidays unless otherwise announced. All mail is delivered only once. If there is no one to receive the mail during door-to-door delivery, the postman will leave a notice card for mail collection, and the recipient must go to the designated post office to collect the mail.
Hongkong Post delivers mail based on the "delivery to address" principle (i.e., delivering mail according to the recipient address on the mail), rather than delivering mail based on the recipient's name as indicated on the mail. Moreover, only mail with a complete deliverable address will be provided with delivery service. The complete recipient address can be referenced in the image below (if unsure of the address, use the Hongkong Post official website tool to confirm the address, website:https://webapp.hongkongpost.hk/correct_addressing/index.jsp?lang=zh_CN). In addition to indicating the complete recipient address, the sender should also include the sender's address in case the mail cannot be successfully delivered and needs to be returned.
Please note: If the address on the mail is incorrect or not for delivery, Hongkong Post will return the mail to the sender; if there is no sender's address on the mail, the mail will be destroyed according to established procedures. Even if there is a phone number on the mail, Hongkong Post staff will not contact the recipient/sender for follow-up. Therefore, before mailing, please ensure that the mail address is complete and correct, and include a return address.
(2) Postal Self-Pickup
As long as the recipient can provide a mobile phone number capable of receiving text messages and the designated postal office or Smart Post station number for pickup, the recipient can pick up the mail at the designated Smart Post station or post office without prior registration. You can check specific Smart Post stations and post offices on the Hongkong Post official website (website: https://www.hongkongpost.hk/sc/receiving_mail/cdn/index.html).
When self-pickup is required, fill in the address field as follows:
1、Smart Post Station Pickup:
2、Postal Self-Pickup
Understanding these precautions will help ensure that mail is accurately and promptly delivered to its destination, while also providing convenience for tapping into Hong Kong's steadily growing e-commerce market.
