1.Temu, a subsidiary of Pinduoduo, officially registers in Thailand


On December 16, it was announced that Temu, the cross-border e-commerce platform under Pinduoduo, has officially registered a legal entity in Thailand, named "WHALECO TECHNOLOGY (THAILAND) LIMITED." The company was registered on November 11, 2024, with a registered capital of 2 million Thai Baht. The shareholders are from the Virgin Islands, holding 400,000 shares, representing 100% of the company’s registered capital. WHALECO TECHNOLOGY focuses on market transactions of goods and services through digital platforms.

2. JD Logistics signs strategic cooperation with General Logistics


On December 16, JD Logistics and General Logistics Group International Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "General Logistics") held a strategic signing ceremony in Beijing. The signing marks that both parties will carry out extensive and in-depth cooperation in express logistics transportation, international logistics, and other fields. In the future, they will explore a series of composite, integrated logistics products to promote resource sharing in the supply chain and cost optimization.

3.China Southern Logistics achieves a new breakthrough with 600,000 tons of international cargo volume in Guangzhou in 2024


On December 16, China Southern Logistics reported that during the “Double 12” period, the import cross-border e-commerce volume in Guangzhou grew by over 70% year-on-year, with a daily peak of 50,000 packages, mainly from Europe, the United States, and Japan. Outbound cross-border e-commerce cargo volume exceeded a 20% year-on-year increase. Popular items in the shopping lists of overseas consumers included clothing accessories, jewelry, and toys, all made in China. According to reports, the total international cargo volume at China Southern Logistics in Guangzhou exceeded 600,000 tons in 2024, setting a new record.

4.SF Express agrees to early repurchase of perpetual convertible bonds by Kerry Logistics


On December 16, SF Express announced that its board of directors had agreed to allow Kerry Logistics to repurchase perpetual convertible bonds at a fair price, given that KEX is no longer a subsidiary of Kerry Logistics. This repurchase is in relation to the 780 million HKD perpetual convertible bonds issued by Kerry Logistics for expanding its Southeast Asian international express business, particularly supporting the development of KEX Express (Thailand) Public Company Limited.

5.Cainiao International Express launches curated express line


On December 16, Cainiao International Express launched a new standard product curated express line. This service, which leverages logistics infrastructure in many European and American countries, optimizes overseas local delivery timeliness by reducing parcel pickup, sorting, and transit times. As a result, international delivery times are shortened by at least 12 hours, and up to one day faster. The curated express line is now available in the U.S., France, and Spain, with plans to expand to the UK and Germany soon, and more countries and markets in the future.

6.FedEx signs MOU with Hong Kong Customs


On December 16, FedEx signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hong Kong Customs to facilitate cross-border customs clearance for express shipments (CEFA). FedEx is the first company to join the CEFA initiative, aimed at improving cross-border cargo clearance efficiency between mainland China and Hong Kong.

7.Amazon India plans to exceed $80 billion in e-commerce exports by 2030


On December 13, Amazon India announced at the SMBhav 2024 event its goal to surpass $80 billion in e-commerce exports by 2030, which is four times higher than the previously set target of $20 billion by 2025. Additionally, Amazon unveiled two new logistics services — Amazon Shipping and Amazon Freight — designed to provide more efficient and cost-effective logistics solutions for businesses across India.

8.Shopee Philippines adjusts transaction service fee for 2025


On December 16, Shopee Philippines announced that starting January 1, 2025, it would adjust the transaction service fee rate. At the same time, free shipping coupons will be available for all sellers, applicable to orders fulfilled through Shopee-supported logistics options. A new standard platform shipping rate of 4.48% (with a maximum fee of P100 per item per completed order) will be implemented for all sellers using Shopee-supported logistics.

9.Alibaba launches e-commerce app “TAO” in Japan


On December 16, Alibaba Group held an introduction session for its new e-commerce app "TAO," launched for the Japanese market. The app, which was launched in October, offers over 3 million products including clothing, groceries, and digital goods. It also features an AI-driven product recommendation system based on consumer preferences. Products are primarily shipped from China to Japan, with delivery taking a few days.

10.Ezhou Huahu International Airport opens two new domestic cargo routes


On December 16, Ezhou Huahu International Airport launched two new domestic cargo routes, flying to Beijing Daxing Airport and Nanchang Changbei Airport. These are the seventh and eighth new domestic cargo routes opened at the airport this year. The airport has been expanding its cargo routes to Europe, the U.S., Asia, Africa, and countries along the "Belt and Road," accelerating the development of a global logistics network.

11.Zhengzhou Airport achieves a new mode of international and domestic air-rail intermodal transport


On December 16, Zhengzhou Airport completed its first "international air cargo import + domestic high-speed rail distribution" operation. A batch of fashion items from Europe was quickly transported to Chongqing via the Zhengzhou-Chongqing high-speed rail freight line. This marks the successful implementation of the new air-rail intermodal transport model at Zhengzhou Airport, entering regular operation. The airport had previously completed the "domestic high-speed rail consolidation + international air export" model.

12.Korean Air completes long-term acquisition of Asiana Airlines


On December 16, Korean Air completed the acquisition of Asiana Airlines, purchasing 63.88% of the company’s newly issued shares for $1.3 billion, making Asiana Airlines a subsidiary of Korean Air. The integration with Asiana Airlines is expected to be completed in two years. Asiana’s cargo business has been sold to Incheon Air, South Korea’s only all-cargo airline. This includes freighters, cargo slots, flight rights, crews, and customer contracts.
