On June 7th, it was reported by Cainiao International Express that in preparation for the 618 promotion in South Korea, Cainiao, in conjunction with AliExpress, announced that over 30 selected warehouses in Hangzhou, Huizhou, Dongguan, and other locations would be able to directly ship to South Korea. With this, merchants using the consignment model on AliExpress in East and South China can easily ship their goods, seizing the opportunity of surging orders in the South Korean market during overseas promotions.
It is reported that this move marks another significant logistics upgrade since Cainiao and AliExpress opened a dedicated logistics line for large parcels to South Korea in February this year. This initiative not only promotes the "grouping" of industries in East and South China to explore overseas markets through cross-border e-commerce but also enriches the variety of goods available in the South Korean market through AliExpress, with SKU numbers expected to increase to over one million.
Through the upgraded China-South Korea cross-border logistics, merchants in North China can stock up at warehouses in Shandong, Weihai, Yantai, etc., and then ship to South Korea via sea or air freight. Merchants in East and South China, on the other hand, can stock up at over 30 Cainiao selected warehouses nearby. After the goods are shipped from these warehouses, they are directly transported by Cainiao for cross-border delivery to South Korea, creating a multi-level cross-border logistics solution with a delivery time of 5-10 days for South Korean consumers.
Over the past year, AliExpress, in collaboration with Cainiao, has continuously upgraded its cross-border logistics solutions between China and South Korea. On one hand, AliExpress has fully launched its semi-consignment model to allow more types of merchants to benefit from this wave of traffic dividends. AliExpress, in partnership with Cainiao, has upgraded its official logistics routes, enabling large items to be included in semi-consignment or full consignment and enjoy Choice labeling. In addition, AliExpress has continuously improved the consumer shopping experience through Choice based on the consignment model, while increasing market investment. The platform has experienced rapid growth in South Korea, consistently topping the download charts for shopping apps and becoming the app with the most new users in the South Korean market in 2023.
Public information shows that in April of this year, AliExpress signed actress Tang Wei and actor Ma Dong-seok as spokespersons for the South Korean market. The user base of AliExpress has surpassed that of South Korean domestic e-commerce giants Gmarket and 11st, making it the second largest e-commerce platform in South Korea. This marks the first appearance of overseas platforms among the top three e-commerce platforms in South Korea. As the world's largest cross-border e-commerce logistics company, Cainiao's global smart logistics network covers more than 200 countries and regions. In the fiscal year 2023, Cainiao handled over 1.5 billion cross-border parcels, serving 133 million cross-border consumers and over 100,000 merchants and brands.
