1.SF Airlines Launches Two New International Cargo Routes

On July 16, news broke that an SF Airlines B747-400 freighter carrying 104 tons of cargo took off from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport bound for Abu Dhabi, marking the official opening of the "Shenzhen ⇋ Abu Dhabi" international cargo route. This is SF Airlines' first Middle Eastern route from Shenzhen and another significant achievement in its collaboration with Etihad Cargo. The route is planned to operate once a week, transporting express parcels, e-commerce goods, and general cargo.  


Additionally, SF Airlines plans to increase cargo flights on the "Ezhou ⇋ Abu Dhabi" route, running parallel with the "Shenzhen ⇋ Abu Dhabi" route. This will increase the number of domestic outbound flights operated in cooperation with Etihad Cargo to six flights per week, using B747 and B777 wide-body freighters, with an expected weekly export capacity of 630 tons.

2.Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd 'Twin Stars' Collaboration Postponed

On July 16, news emerged that the review of the "Gemini" collaboration proposed by global shipping giants Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd has been postponed by the U.S. Federal Maritime Commission (FMC), attracting widespread attention and discussion within the industry. In January 2024, the two companies announced their collaboration plan, intending to start the long-term "Gemini" operational collaboration in February 2025, covering 26 trunk services across seven major trade lanes.  


Despite the FMC's postponed review introducing some uncertainty, Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd remain confident in the "Gemini" collaboration agreement. Both companies stated they would continue cooperating with the FMC and do not expect this decision to impact the "Gemini" collaboration network.

3.FedEx Releases Two New Handbooks

On July 16, news reported that FedEx has fully integrated into the e-commerce ecosystems of China and Japan, using its expertise to compile and release two "Cross-Border E-Commerce Handbooks" to help small and medium-sized enterprises engaged in international business better reach consumers in China and Japan. The handbooks include content such as regional overviews of consumer demographics, key e-commerce product categories, an overview of local e-commerce markets and platforms, consumer behavior analysis, popular shopping seasons, and preferences for payment and delivery methods.

4.Southern Air Cargo Launches New International Cargo Route

On July 16, news broke that a B777F freighter loaded with cross-border e-commerce goods took off from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport, stopping in Anchorage before heading to Chicago, marking the official opening of Southern Air Cargo's Shenzhen-Anchorage-Chicago cargo route. It is reported that the Shenzhen-Anchorage-Chicago route is the eighth route operated by Southern Air Cargo since its establishment, and the first route from its second base in Shenzhen. It is a key step in Southern Air Cargo's strategy of multi-base operations and achieving the goal of "flying globally, flying worldwide."

5.TikTok Shop USA Launches New Incentives for Cross-Border Sellers

On July 16, news was announced that TikTok Shop has launched the July "Special Incentive Policy" under the "New Seller Launch Program" to help merchants focusing on the U.S. market achieve rapid growth through "promotion coupon subsidies and commission reductions." From July 1 to July 31, 2024, eligible U.S. cross-border self-operated merchants can receive the following two special benefits: Benefit 1 is a promotion coupon worth $400; Benefit 2 is a commission reduction, where merchants, once approved and their status becomes Active, will enjoy a commission rate of 2% + $0.3 per order for 60 days (GMV cap $500k, no benefits for exceeding this amount).

6.eBay Fulfillment Third Quarter Seller Reward Program Launched


On July 16, news was released about the details of the eBay Fulfillment third-quarter seller reward program. Sellers participating in the eBay fulfillment by Orange Connex service plan can receive up to $10,000 in rewards at each participating site, with a total cumulative reward of up to $40,000 for eligible sellers who successfully sign up for events at multiple sites. The event period for eBay Germany, UK, Australia, and US sites is from 00:00 on July 1, 2024, to 23:59 on September 30, 2024, Mountain Time (15:00 on July 1, 2024, to 14:59 on October 1, 2024, Beijing Time).

7.Lazada Opens Overseas Warehouse in Singapore

On July 16, news broke that Southeast Asian e-commerce platform Lazada announced the official opening of its overseas warehouse in Singapore. Merchants only need to submit product information, choose any shipping method to send goods to the overseas warehouse, and complete outbound shipment within 24 hours. This move is expected to help merchants reduce logistics costs by 30% to 90%.

8.Freight Rates End 13-Week Uptrend, Multiple Routes Decline

On July 16, it was reported that the Shanghai Shipping Exchange's Shanghai Export Containerized Freight Index, released on the 12th, was 3674.86 points, down 1.6% from the previous period, ending a 13-week uptrend. Additionally, freight rate trends on different routes have begun to diverge.  


The market freight rate (ocean freight and surcharges) from Shanghai Port to major European ports was $5,051/TEU, up 4.0% from the previous period. The market freight rate to major Mediterranean ports was $5,424/TEU, slightly down 0.1% from the previous period. The market freight rates to the US West Coast and East Coast major ports were $7,654/FEU and $9,881/FEU, respectively. The latest market freight rate to major South American ports was $8,760/TEU, down 2.9% from the previous period.

9.Maersk Launches New SH3 Shipping Route

On July 16, news broke that Maersk recently launched a new SH3 shipping route from China to Bangladesh to meet the growing retail trade demand between the two countries. The new SH3 route further enhances shipping capacity between the two countries. The SH3 route starts at Shanghai Port in China, passing through Xiamen Port, Kaohsiung Port, Nansha Port, and Tanjung Pelepas Port, and finally arriving at Chittagong in Bangladesh. On the return trip, the route will pass through Tanjung Pelepas Port again, where cargo can be transshipped to Europe.

10.Nanchang Airport Resumes Intercontinental Cargo Route


On July 16, news was reported that a Capital Airlines Airbus A330 freighter loaded with nearly 60 tons of cargo took off from Nanchang Changbei International Airport, flying directly to Brussels, Belgium. This marks the official resumption of the regular intercontinental cargo route between Nanchang, Jiangxi, and Brussels. The resumed regular intercontinental cargo route is operated by Jiangxi International Cargo Airlines Co., Ltd. (in preparation) in cooperation with Nanchang Airport Investment Group, using an Airbus A330 freighter.

11.Singapore Post Expands in Australian Market


On July 16, news broke that Singapore Post subsidiary CouriersPlease announced the completion of a merger with FMH Group. After the merger, FMH Group's annual total revenue can reach AUD 1.3 billion, making it one of the top five logistics companies in Australia. In Australia, FMH, CouriersPlease, and Border Express (acquired by FMH in November 2023) will be integrated into one department to provide end-to-end logistics services.

12. Fujian Cross-Border E-Commerce Export Transactions Exceed 100 Billion Yuan

 

On July 16, according to CCTV news, in the first half of this year, Fujian Province's cross-border e-commerce export transactions reached 110.65 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 76%, setting a new historical high for the same period. Among them, Fujian's cross-border e-commerce exports to Belt and Road countries reached 64.82 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 142.2%, accounting for 58.6% of the total cross-border e-commerce export value of Fujian Province in the same period. ASEAN, the United States, and the European Union were the top three export markets for Fujian's cross-border e-commerce, with exports reaching 57.57 billion, 11.84 billion, and 5.75 billion yuan in the first half of the year, respectively, with year-on-year increases of 195.4%, 40%, and 61.7%, accounting for 67.9% of the total cross-border e-commerce export value of Fujian Province in the same period.
