1. DP World Completes Acquisition of Jia Hong Logistics


On September 4, it was reported that DP World has completed its acquisition of Hong Kong freight services provider Jia Hong Logistics to expand its retail and fashion logistics business and develop its air freight services. Before this acquisition, Jia Hong Shipping was wholly owned by Jia Hong Holdings, with Jia Hong Logistics being 75% owned by Jia Hong Shipping and 25% owned by Tuoling. Now, Jia Hong Shipping Group is independently controlled by DP World Logistics and indirectly controlled by DP World Limited.

2. JD Global Sales Adds Three New Logistics Fulfillment Models


On September 4, JD Global Sales, a one-stop shopping platform for exporting goods under JD.com, announced logistics fulfillment adjustments in the United States, Japan, Singapore, and other regions. In addition to the existing official direct mail and third-party shipping methods, three new fulfillment models have been introduced: Express Direct Mail - Air Freight, Standard Direct Mail - Air Freight, and Economy Direct Mail - Sea Freight. JD Global Sales primarily targets overseas Chinese users. After the adjustment, overseas consumers purchasing JD's self-operated products will enjoy significant shipping discounts and faster delivery. For products that do not meet the free shipping threshold, the first-weight shipping fee for U.S. direct mail will be reduced by 50%, and sea freight will start at 58 yuan. For Singaporean consumers choosing air freight, the first-weight shipping fee will start at 20 yuan.

3. SF Holding Repurchases Shares Worth 1.56 Billion Yuan


On September 4, SF Holding announced that it has been implementing a share repurchase plan since April 30, 2024. As of August 31, 2024, the company has repurchased 15,425,458 shares through its dedicated securities account for share repurchases via centralized bidding, with a total repurchase amount of approximately 563,265,108.66 yuan (excluding transaction fees). The repurchased shares represent 0.32% of the company's current total share capital, with an average transaction price of 36.52 yuan per share (the highest price being 37.88 yuan per share and the lowest being 33.79 yuan per share). The company will continue to implement the repurchase plan based on market conditions within the repurchase period.

4. Lecang Logistics Subsidiary Signs Framework Agreement with Lecang Fantasy


On September 4, Lecang Logistics announced that on September 2, 2024, its subsidiary Boya International Shipping signed a framework agreement with Lecang Fantasy. According to the novation agreement, Lecang Fantasy will transfer all rights and obligations under the shipbuilding agreement to Boya International Shipping, and Boya International Shipping will pay Lecang Fantasy a total of $57.92 million, equivalent to the initial payment Lecang Fantasy has made to CSSC and Jiangnan Shipyard under the shipbuilding agreement.

5. Shopee Adjusts Third-Party Warehouse Last-Mile Logistics


On September 4, Shopee announced that from 00:00 (local time) on September 2, 2024, Shopee Chile Station will switch the last-mile logistics of third-party warehouses to Shopee's integrated channels. This adjustment significantly reduces the original last-mile logistics costs for Shopee Chile Station's third-party warehouses, making the shipping process more convenient. The platform will automatically complete the switch for Shopee Chile Station's third-party warehouse stores from 00:00 (local time) on September 2, 2024, with no action required by sellers. The integrated channel logistics rates will only apply to orders generated from September 2, 2024 (local time).

6. Amazon Becomes the Second Largest E-Commerce Platform in Brazil


On September 4, it was reported that, according to monthly data from Conversion, Amazon surpassed Shopee to become the second most visited e-commerce platform in Brazil in July, thanks to the success of Prime Day. 7. Shopify and YouTube Shopping Partnership Program Now Open


On September 4, Shopify announced that all eligible Shopify Plus and Advanced merchants in the U.S. can now join the YouTube Shopping Partnership Program via the Google & YouTube app on Shopify. This feature allows merchants to link their Shopify stores with YouTube, enabling eligible creators to add product tags in their videos, embed corresponding links or information, and direct viewers to the purchase page by clicking on the tags. 8. Major Changes for Individual Sellers on eBay


On September 4, eBay announced that starting October 1, it will adjust fees for individual sellers in the UK, reducing the number of free listings per month and removing the option for cash payment on local pickup. Previously, individual sellers on eBay could list up to 1,000 items per month for free. After October 1, this threshold will be reduced to 300 free listings per month. Once the 300 free listings are used up, each additional listing will incur a fee of 35 pence. Additionally, eBay will discontinue the cash payment option for local pickup items. From October 1, buyers will no longer be able to pay with cash; all local item payments must be made through the eBay website.

9. 10 New International Cargo Routes Launched in August


On September 4, it was reported by the Aviation Logistics Branch of the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing that China's international cargo routes continued to expand in August, with export goods still primarily consisting of cross-border e-commerce goods. In August, 10 new international cargo routes were launched nationwide, adding more than 30 round-trip flights per week. Among these, six routes are to Asia, three to Europe, and one to North America. The new routes are operated by eight airlines, with an equal split between domestic and foreign carriers. In terms of capacity, four of the routes use wide-body aircraft. As for cargo structure, export goods are still dominated by cross-border e-commerce shipments.

10. Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport's New International Cargo Terminal Begins Construction


On September 4, it was reported that the second phase of the international cargo terminal project at Hangzhou Airport has officially begun construction, with the groundbreaking ceremony held at the terminal's Phase II construction site. The project covers 77 acres, with a total construction area of 64,000 square meters. It includes a three-story terminal building and supporting facilities such as a vehicle platform, vehicle ramp, customs gate, and airside waiting shed for air cargo logistics. Each floor of the terminal will be able to handle both international inbound and outbound operations, and the internal equipment layout can be customized according to the needs of major customers. The project is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Once operational, it will work together with the first phase of the international cargo terminal to support Hangzhou Airport's annual international cargo throughput of 800,000 tons, further enhancing the airport's status as an air logistics hub. The first phase of the international cargo terminal handled 109,300 tons of international cargo and mail from January to July, a year-on-year increase of 59.83%, and is expected to surpass 200,000 tons for the year.

12. CMA CGM Imposes Port Congestion Surcharge


On September 4, it was reported that CMA CGM, an ocean shipping company, announced the imposition of a new port congestion surcharge for the ports of Algiers, Bejaia, Skikda, and Oran in Algeria. The Marseille-based container line will charge a surcharge of $250 per standard container from all origins. However, for the United States and Latin American countries, this surcharge will take effect on September 30.
