1. DHL to Increase Freight Rates by 4.9% in 2025

 

On October 22, DHL Express announced a freight rate adjustment effective January 1, 2025. Average rates will increase by 4.9% in New Zealand, Bangladesh, Brunei, and Sri Lanka, while specific increases for Thailand are yet to be announced on their official website. Despite ongoing geopolitical dynamics and supply chain disruptions impacting the logistics landscape, DHL remains committed to providing stable and reliable services globally. This annual price adjustment allows DHL to continue investing in its logistics network, enhancing its resilience and adaptability to support customer businesses regardless of external conditions.

2. GuCang Becomes One of SHEIN's Quality Ecosystem Partners


On October 22, GuCang's overseas warehouse was recognized as one of SHEIN's first quality ecosystem partners in the overseas warehouse sector. Since the launch of SHEIN's overseas expansion plan in 500 cities on September 19 last year, SHEIN has engaged in deep collaborations with ecosystem partners, driving many third-party sellers and brands to achieve high-quality overseas expansion, with notable results.

3. COSCO Shipping's Listed Companies Announce Share Buyback Plans


On October 22, four listed companies under COSCO Shipping Group announced plans for share repurchases or increases. COSCO Shipping Holdings and COSCO Shipping Development plan to repurchase and cancel shares, while COSCO Shipping Energy and COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers will see their controlling shareholder increase their holdings. COSCO Shipping Holdings released a report on repurchasing A-shares, planning to repurchase between 50 million and 100 million shares within six months after shareholder approval, with an estimated total repurchase amount reaching 1 to 2 billion RMB (calculated based on a maximum repurchase price of 20 RMB/share). The repurchased shares will be used for cancellation and to reduce registered capital.

4. 127 New International Cargo Routes Open Nationwide


As of the end of September, more than 120 new international cargo routes have opened this year, further expanding the international air cargo network. According to the China Federation of Logistics and Purchasing's aviation logistics division, by September 30, 127 new international cargo routes were opened, adding over 370 round-trip flights weekly. In September alone, 20 new routes were established, with over 60 new round-trip flights added weekly. Among the newly opened routes, there are 65 in Asia, 39 in Europe, and 18 in North America, involving 62 airlines, including 17 domestic and 45 foreign carriers. The main types of exported goods include cross-border e-commerce products, fresh goods, electronics, and auto parts.

5.SF Express Plans to List in Hong Kong Next Month  


On October 22, IFR reported that logistics giant SF Holdings (002352.SZ) plans to list on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange next month, raising about $2 billion (approximately 15.6 billion HKD). Previously, SF announced its intention to distribute a special dividend of 10 RMB per 10 shares to all A-share shareholders before the H-share listing, totaling 4.8 billion RMB. As of October 18, SF's A-share closed at 42.52 RMB/share, with a market value of 204.77 billion RMB.

6. Postal Air Cargo Exports Over 10 Million RMB  


On October 22, a postal air cargo plane carrying 9.7 tons of goods successfully took off from Fuzhou Changle International Airport bound for Osaka, Japan. According to Fuzhou Customs, since the launch of this air cargo route two months ago, it has transported 153.6 tons of goods valued at 10.71 million RMB, including daily necessities and clothing. In the past month, the shipment volume has increased by 220% compared to the previous month. This route provides more efficient and convenient logistics services for mail, express, and cross-border e-commerce businesses in Fuzhou and the Southeast coastal region, opening new channels for cargo exports.

7. New North American Route Opened at Ezhou Huahu  


On October 22, an Atlas Air B767F cargo plane successfully took off from Ezhou Huahu International Airport, marking the inaugural flight of the “Ezhou-Anchorage-Seattle” dedicated cargo route. This route will operate from Ezhou every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, carrying export goods like electronics, auto parts, and clothing to Anchorage, then flying to Seattle, with subsequent land transport to inland destinations in the U.S. such as San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Vancouver in Canada.

8. European Air Cargo Opens New Freight Route  


On October 22, an international cargo flight carrying cross-border e-commerce packages took off from Urumqi International Airport to Cardiff, UK. Operated by European Air Cargo, this flight carried a total of 59.1 tons of goods. This new route will further promote trade relations between China and the UK and fill the gap in freight routes from Xinjiang to the western end of Europe.

9. “Taiyuan⇌Almaty” Freight Route Launched


On October 22, a B737-800 cargo plane took off from Taiyuan Wusu International Airport heading to Almaty, Kazakhstan, marking the official launch of the “Taiyuan⇌Almaty” international freight route. Operated by Huixin Aviation Services and executed by Tianjin Cargo Airlines, the inaugural flight carried 15 tons of goods valued over one million RMB, with plans to operate two flights weekly, providing a total round-trip capacity of 36 tons. The route primarily transports shoes, clothing, daily necessities, and mechanical parts, ensuring sufficient capacity for cross-border e-commerce platforms and general trade import/export companies.

10.World's Largest Unmanned Cargo Plane W5000 Rolls Off Assembly Line  


On October 22, the world's largest unmanned cargo plane, the W5000, successfully rolled off the assembly line at the Changzhou production base of the White Whale Airlines. This aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of 10.8 tons, a payload capacity of 5 tons, and a range of 2600 kilometers.  

 

In conjunction with the W5000's successful assembly, White Whale Airlines also announced it has secured 120 million RMB in Series A financing, the second round of financing in 2024, just four months after a previous Pre-A round of several tens of millions. Existing investor Changjin Investment continues to participate in this round, which will primarily fund the production of test aircraft for the W5000 model, ground testing, and assembly capacity building. Total financing for White Whale Airlines in 2024 is nearing 200 million RMB.

11.Amazon Mexico Sellers Near 27,000


On October 22, Amazon released an economic impact report in Mexico City. Over the past nine years, Amazon's total investment in Mexico has reached 110 billion pesos (approximately 5.516 billion USD). Currently, there are nearly 27,000 sellers, a 52% increase from the previous year, offering over 5 million products to Mexican consumers.

12. ONE Upgrades EC2 Route


On October 22, ONE announced an upgrade to its EC2 route, enhancing capacity between East Asia and North America to ensure efficient transport of goods. The ports of call for the EC2 route include: Xiamen, Yantian, Ningbo, Shanghai, Busan, (Panama Canal), Manzanillo, Savannah, Charleston, Jacksonville, Manzanillo, (Panama Canal), Busan, and back to Xiamen.
