1. China Cargo Airlines Signs Three-Year Agreement with Cathay Pacific  


On January 6, China Cargo Airlines announced that it has officially signed a "General Services Framework Agreement" with Cathay Pacific Airways. The agreement aims to provide service arrangements in multiple areas, including but not limited to air cargo space sales and services, ground handling services, software services, air cargo joint ventures, and leasing services. The initial term of the agreement is from January 1, 2024, to December 31, 2026, and will be automatically renewed for three-year periods thereafter.

2. New International Cargo Route from Ezhou to Paris Launched


On January 6, Zonteng Group's Boeing B777F freighter departed from Huahu International Airport to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, marking the official launch of the "Ezhou ⇄ Paris" freighter route. The inaugural flight, operated by Zonteng Group in partnership with Zhongzhou Airlines, carried over 92 tons of e-commerce goods to France, including more than 124,800 cross-border e-commerce parcels across 58 product categories. This new route is a regular round-trip freight service between Ezhou and Paris, initially operating once a week, with plans to increase to five flights per week. The route is expected to contribute over 30,000 tons of international cargo throughput growth for Huahu Airport annually.

3. Southern Cargo Airlines Adds a B777F Freighter


On January 6, Southern Cargo Airlines successfully introduced a B777F freighter (B-2080). The new freighter will operate international routes to Amsterdam, London, Riyadh, Los Angeles, and more. The addition of the new freighter will increase Southern Cargo Airlines' monthly international freighter flights, helping China Southern Logistics provide more efficient and stable air cargo services to global customers.

4. JD Logistics Launches International Route Between Shenzhen, China, and Bangkok, Thailand


On January 6, a JD Airlines freighter loaded with cross-border e-commerce goods took off from Shenzhen Airport at 10:00 AM and landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, Thailand, at 12:20 PM, before returning to Shenzhen at 1:40 PM. This marks the official launch of the new "Shenzhen ⇄ Bangkok" international route operated by JD Logistics. The route will operate three times a week, primarily serving Chinese cross-border e-commerce brands expanding overseas.

5. Temu Plans to Collaborate with Logistics Center


On January 6, Temu announced its readiness to cooperate within the framework of the Atbashi Logistics Center project. According to the center, one of its founders, Naryn Sukhoi Port LLC, gave a speech in Guangzhou, China. Temu, which is owned by Pinduoduo, expressed its willingness to collaborate. In the second quarter of 2024, Temu's turnover reached $13.4 billion, as it directly sells products from manufacturers to consumers worldwide, bypassing intermediaries.

6. SF Airlines Surpasses 7 Million Tons in Cargo Transportation  


On January 6, SF Airlines successfully completed its 2024 air transport production tasks, marking its 15th anniversary of operations. Since its launch on December 31, 2009, SF Airlines has operated 89 freighters, covering over 110 cities worldwide, established four air cargo bases, flown over 900,000 hours, and transported more than 7 million tons of cargo. The airline is steadily advancing from a medium-sized carrier to a large cargo airline. Its nearly 90 freighters are now operating at scale, with nearly 200 daily flights during peak periods, covering domestic routes and reaching Asia, Europe, and North America.

7. Air Freight Hub Project Completes Acceptance Inspection  


On January 6, SF’s Western Air Cargo Hub Project completed its preliminary acceptance inspection. The project is located just a fence away from the cargo terminal apron at Shuangliu International Airport. It is the first project in Western China connecting freighters seamlessly with the air cargo hub and is SF Group's fourth regional international air cargo transshipment center, following Beijing, Hangzhou, and Shenzhen. The project represents an investment of 1 billion yuan.

8. Zhengzhou Airport Launches New International Cargo Route  


On January 6, the Zhengzhou-Abu Dhabi international cargo route was launched. The route is operated by Etihad Airways, with two weekly flights on Wednesdays and Fridays, primarily transporting cross-border e-commerce goods. With this new route, Zhengzhou becomes the fourth cargo destination for Etihad Airways in mainland China, following Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Ezhou.

9. Etihad Cargo Expands Its Freight Network


On January 6, Etihad Cargo announced it is expanding its freight network with Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG) as its newest destination. The service, launching on January 7, 2025, will operate one flight per week, providing over 100 tons of additional cargo capacity. Paris will become the 12th destination in Etihad's freighter network, signaling the airline's continued commitment to providing stronger global connectivity and meeting diverse customer needs.

10. Chengdu Tianfu International Airport Express Center Officially Opens  


On January 6, the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport Express Center officially opened. The center will allow express and cross-border e-commerce goods to be directly imported and exported from the Tianfu Airport. Located in the airport's international cargo area, the center spans 13,000 square meters, with four inspection lines and areas for both import and export operations. It is connected to the airside distribution lane, offering direct access to the airport's main warehouse or apron, which will reduce transshipment costs and improve cargo delivery efficiency.

11. Mexico Imposes 16% Tariff on Cross-border E-commerce Platforms


On January 6, Mexico's Tax Administration Service (SAT) announced that starting from January 1, 2025, foreign companies selling goods through e-commerce platforms (including SHEIN, Temu, Amazon, etc.) will be subject to a 16% Value-Added Tax (VAT). This policy aims to increase the Mexican government's tax revenue and strengthen oversight of foreign e-commerce platforms.

12. TikTok Shop US Sales to Surpass $8 Billion in 2024  


On January 6, TikTok Shop's sales in the US are expected to reach $8 billion. Data shows that from January to November 2024, TikTok Shop's sales in the US totaled $6.5 billion, and it is expected to exceed $8 billion by the end of the year. Despite being launched only a little over a year ago, TikTok Shop's rapid rise has already made a significant impact in the social commerce sector.
