1. DPD and GLS Collaboration

 

On January 9, DPD announced a collaboration with GLS. This partnership allows customers to freely choose either DPD or GLS parcel shops for sending and receiving packages. The shared establishment of parcel stations further enriches customers' options, making the parcel sending and receiving process more efficient and convenient. In terms of business expansion, DPD and GLS are actively providing deep cooperation opportunities for parcel shop operators to explore innovative business models and service modes together, aiming for mutual benefits and a win-win situation.

   

Both parties will also invest fully in building an open locker network, initially launched with equal contributions from both parties. The plan is to deploy 1,000 lockers by the end of 2025, establishing them as a public resource platform open to all market participants and CEP services.

2. Temu Semi-Managed Business Expansion

 

On January 9, Temu announced the launch schedule for its new semi-managed business sites in Austria, Romania, and Denmark. According to the official schedule, the Austrian site opened to customers on January 6; the Romanian site will open on January 10; and the Danish site is planned to open on January 15. Additionally, Temu revealed that its Japan and Mexico stores are also launching soon. The Japan store will begin supporting merchant sign-ups on January 22 (only for merchant registration and product listing, not including financial accounts and tax setup), with the customer-facing launch expected in mid to late February. The Mexico store is already open for merchants to sign up and list products, with the customer-facing launch scheduled for January 23 (currently only available for local customers, semi-managed services may need to wait until after the New Year).

3. Deutsche Bahn Xinhua Launches New Cargo Route from Ezhou to Frankfurt

 

On January 9, a Boeing 777 full freighter carrying various goods took off smoothly from Ezhou Huahu International Airport on its maiden flight to Frankfurt, Germany, marking the official launch of the regular cargo route between Ezhou and Frankfurt by Deutsche Bahn Xinhua. This route will provide a new important air logistics channel between Central China and Europe.

   

The regular cargo route will be operated by the globally renowned Etihad Cargo and is scheduled to depart from Ezhou every Tuesday, making a stop in Abu Dhabi before arriving in Frankfurt the following day. The cargo types on this route will cover e-commerce, high-tech products, electronics, industrial goods, consumer goods, retail items, and automobiles, with an expected annual cargo volume of 5,200 tons. Deutsche Bahn Xinhua will provide stable capacity support for Sino-European trade, promoting the deepening of economic and trade cooperation between the two regions.

4. USPS Launches Next-Day Delivery Service

 

On January 9, USPS announced the launch of USPS Ground Advantage's “Next-Day Priority” service and USPS Connect’s same-day and next-day delivery solutions. The USPS Ground Advantage service is specifically designed for businesses that meet the minimum shipping volume and deadline requirements, offering competitive pricing and coverage for approximately 295 million U.S. residents, or 87% of the population. The service connects 200 local processing centers (LPCs) through 150-mile postal region processing and distribution centers (RPDCs), providing overnight delivery to thousands of postal delivery units. Additionally, USPS Connect offers reliable same-day and next-day options, with a minimum daily delivery volume requirement of 10 items, each no heavier than 10 pounds.

6. JD Airlines Introduces 10th Boeing 737-800 Freighter

 

On January 9, JD Logistics introduced the 10th Boeing 737-800 freighter into its fleet, registered as B-226T, with an age of 18.6 years. The aircraft was previously operated by China Southern Airlines as B-5165 and was converted into a full freighter by Shandong Taikoo after retiring from passenger service in March 2024.

7.Huahu Airport Becomes the Central China Leader in Cargo Throughput

 

On January 9, as the dual hub for passenger and cargo flights in Hubei, Wuhan Tianhe International Airport achieved a passenger throughput of 31.4 million in 2024, while Ezhou Huahu International Airport completed a cargo throughput of 102.5 thousand tons, both ranking first in Central China. As Asia's first professional cargo airport, Ezhou Huahu International Airport opened 10 new domestic cargo routes and 20 international and regional cargo routes in 2024, completing 102.5 thousand tons of cargo throughput, including 26.7 thousand tons of international and regional cargo. The airport has now opened 85 cargo routes, connecting to 34 international and regional destinations, forming a full freighter route network that serves global cargo traffic.

8.Ezhou ⇌ Budapest International Cargo Route Opens

 

On January 9, Huixin Aviation Services launched an international cargo route from Ezhou to Budapest, operated by a Boeing 767-300 full freighter from Georgian airline Kamax. The launch of this route enhances Ezhou Huahu Airport’s network connectivity, helping to build a new aviation logistics hub. The first flight on the Ezhou ⇌ Budapest route carried 55 tons of goods, mainly including cross-border e-commerce goods, high-end accessories, and precision instruments, providing transportation services for cross-border e-commerce and general trade goods, promoting the export of high-quality Chinese products to more European countries.

9.YTO Express Owns 13 Freighters

 

On January 9, YTO Express announced that its fleet of owned freighters had reached 13 aircraft, including two Boeing 767-300s, 10 Boeing 757-200s, and one ARJ21-700. YTO Express has opened over 150 cargo routes, covering major regions in Asia and key areas in Eastern Europe.
